“I feel very honored, particularly because the High Point Literary League is such an incredible group of women…. They do so many wonderful things for the community, in addition to being committed to a love for literature.”
Inspired by Helen Mounts, the Literary League Scholarship was established in 1987 at then High Point College by members of the High Point Literary League. The scholarship recognizes excellence in creative writing and literary areas of study.
Qualified students must be North Carolina residents, with preference given to students studying creative writing or journalism. Recipients are nominated by High Point University’s English Department faculty. Emphasis is placed on students who have demonstrated academic merit and financial need, with preference given to female students who have maintained at least a “B” average in their writing curriculum. At least one scholarship has been awarded annually since 1990, ranging from $800 to $2,500.
2025-2026 Scholarship Winner Malia agostinelli
A senior at High Point University, Malia Agostinelli is pursuing a double major in English and journalism. An avid reader, Malia has always had an eye for telling stories that will impact a broad audience.
Throughout her college career, these passions have been transformed into editorial writing, primarily focused on a future in the world of magazines and publishing houses. Her dream is to work for Condé Nast or a big-five publishing house, where she can share her love of storytelling with the world.
This past summer, Malia served an internship at Interior Design Magazine in New York City. There, she interviewed prominent designers and had six articles published under her byline. This internship opened the door for her to become a freelance writer for the magazine where she continues to expand her portfolio as a digital journalist.
